In need of a Data Warehouse Engineer!

This is a senior position, reporting to the BI-Clinical Analytics & Reporting Manager, and is responsible for supporting the Clinical Analytics & Reporting group with clinical data warehouse changes, enhancements and new data structures. This will include BI system design, development, testing and implementation. The skills required will include Data Warehouse (DW) modeling using ER Studio and ETL development using IBM DataStage and the Epic Caboodle Console Data Structure design and ETL development tool. This position will work with the Epic ETL Console tools and various IBM Infosphere tools; DataStage, Information Analyzer, Metadata Workbench and business Glossary as well as Oracle PL/SQL and MS SQL Server, to process Epic/Clarity and Caboodle clinical data to meet the solution design requirements. This position will need to perform scoping and estimating on Data Warehouse activities and present technical information and solution design proposals in easily understood terms in both verbal and written form. In addition this position will be expected to perform complete and thorough unit testing of all developed solutions including performance testing of the solution

DW and ETL Development:
Contributes to the growth of the OHSU Data Warehouse architecture by designing, developing and implementing data structures in both our Oracle data warehouse platform as well as our Epic SQL Server data warehouse platform.
Work with BI Architects, Developers, Analysts and users to design, create and publish ETL processes and ETL meta-data using the Epic supplied tools for the Caboodle data warehouse as well as the IBM DataStage tools for the OHSU data warehouse.
Provide complete and consistent documentation of data warehouse content and ensure that users can determine what data is available in the warehouse, how this data is defined, how key metrics are defined and analysis is performed.
Use the knowledge gained by working with the ETL team and through prior experience to analyze OHSU data in order to meet reporting requirements.

ETL and BI system support:
Troubleshoot and analyze ETL process failures, data anomalies and other ETL or data warehouse issues identified by automated monitoring, other developers and end users.
Work through established processes to resolve any system or data problems and communicate updates and status to affected groups.
Recommend changes to ETL processes and/or the data warehouse model to improve existing structures and code to increase reliability and efficiency.

Epic Clarity and System Upgrades:
Plan, facilitate and implement Epic upgrades to Data Warehouse data structures and supporting objects. Conduct a thorough impact analysis of the Epic Clarity and Caboodle changes and use standard work solutions to develop corrective solutions to impacted objects.
Follow a similar process for managing system and database upgrades.
Provide support to data warehouse developers, line-of-business analysts and users to validate data in the data warehouse. Investigate and report on problems and work to ensure the validity of the data warehouse.

Data Modeling:
Work with data warehouse developers, line-of-business analysts and users to design and develop data structures and data marts that support and enhance information access, analysis and reporting.

Process Improvement
Recommend changes to ETL processes and/or the data warehouse model to improve existing structures and code to increase reliability and efficiency.
Deliver additional ETL tools and/or data warehouse systems/products to improve the use of business data in the decision making process.
It is expected that this position will be seen as a technical data warehouse Go-To person for technical help and mentoring.

Required:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and eight years of work related experience in the information technology field; OR
Associate’s degree in computer science or related field and nine years of work related experience in the information technology field; OR
Ten years work related experience in the information technology field; OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum of 3 years Data warehouse data structure design and development experience on both Oracle and SQL Server platforms.
Minimum three years of experience building jobs in IBM DataStage.
Minimum two years of experience with IBM Infosphere Tools (Metadata Workbench, Business Glossary etc.)

Knowledge of data warehousing architecture and dimensional modeling concepts.
Ability to read, write and maintain SQL code at an advanced skill level. In both SQL Server and Oracle environments

Preferred:
Three or more years of current experience with Epic applications and/or the Epic Clarity environment and one year of Epic Caboodle (CDW) data structure development.
Experience developing at an academic medical center or healthcare related organization preferred.
Experience planning and managing projects.
Four or more years of experience developing in SQL Server/SSIS.
2 or more years of experience with Oracle PL/SQL coding and tuning
Knowledge of data warehousing architecture and dimensional modeling concepts.
Ability to read, write and maintain SQL code at an advanced skill level. In both SQL Server and Oracle environments Experience in designing Star Schema data structures.
Experience with a job scheduling tool – Active Batch
