About the role
Help cities make policing and fire/EMS services more effective and equitable. You’ll turn complex data into clear stories and actionable recommendations for chiefs, city leaders, and communities.
What you’ll work on (examples)
- Forecast population growth and service demand; use GIS to site new fire stations (e.g., Phoenix Fire Department).
- Conduct redistricting/beat studies to align police deployment with community needs and reduce service inequities (e.g., Los Angeles Police Department).
- Build interactive resource-allocation models to guide organization-wide staffing (e.g., San Francisco Police Department).
No two projects are alike—you’ll solve multidisciplinary problems and tailor solutions to each client.
- Partner with police, fire, and local government teams to understand challenges and co-design data-driven solutions.
- Analyze workload, service levels, disparities, and staffing capacity to surface improvement opportunities.
- Create compelling data visualizations and perform spatial analysis (GIS) to communicate insights.
- Build and refine analytical models that inform strategy and decision-making.
- Translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Bachelor’s in a relevant field (data science, statistics, public administration, criminal justice, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Proficiency with GIS preferred (advanced skills a plus).
- Strong data-viz abilities (clean, impactful presentations of complex data).
- Excellent written and verbal communication for client-facing and internal work.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment and collaborating across teams.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced setting with multiple concurrent projects.
- Experience or academic background in law enforcement or fire/EMS.
- Coding skills (Python, R, SQL).
- Experience with AI/ML tools or techniques for analysis and/or coding.
