Mechanical Engineer
Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, installation, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment, machining systems, assembly systems, fixtures, tooling, and facility-related equipment. This position will work closely with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Skilled Trades, Production, and external equipment suppliers to improve equipment reliability, resolve technical issues, and support continuous production operations.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience within an automotive or industrial manufacturing environment and be comfortable troubleshooting equipment directly on the production floor.
Key Responsibilities

Support the design, development, build, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of machining and assembly systems.

Design, modify, and improve manufacturing fixtures, tooling, mechanical systems, and facility equipment.

Provide hands-on technical support for manufacturing equipment failures and production interruptions.

Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical equipment issues.

Work directly with Skilled Trades, Maintenance Supervisors, Production personnel, and Engineering teams to diagnose equipment problems and restore production.

Review mechanical drawings, equipment prints, layouts, technical specifications, and bills of materials.

Use AutoCAD or similar design software to review and update equipment drawings and manufacturing layouts.

Support equipment installations, machine upgrades, process changes, and production-line modifications.

Develop technical specifications and scope-of-work documentation for equipment suppliers and contractors.

Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and external service providers to resolve technical issues.

Assist with identifying replacement parts, managing spare-parts requirements, and supporting equipment documentation.

Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent future downtime.

Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend improvements related to safety, quality, equipment reliability, productivity, and cost.

Support equipment acceptance activities, including installation verification, testing, commissioning, and production launch.

Maintain accurate technical documentation, including equipment drawings, spare-parts lists, maintenance plans, process documentation, and project records.

Manage assigned engineering projects, timelines, deliverables, and technical priorities.

Ensure engineering work complies with applicable safety, quality, environmental, and manufacturing standards.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Experience supporting mechanical engineering activities within an automotive, manufacturing, machining, assembly, or industrial environment.

Experience with the design, development, installation, or troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.

Knowledge of machining systems, assembly equipment, fixtures, tooling, and facility equipment.

Strong mechanical troubleshooting and structured problem-solving skills.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical prints, bills of materials, and technical specifications.

Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electromechanical systems.

Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or another engineering design platform.

Ability to work directly on the manufacturing floor and respond to equipment-related production issues.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Skilled Trades, suppliers, and contractors.

Ability to manage multiple engineering assignments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience within automotive manufacturing, powertrain manufacturing, machining, or high-volume assembly operations.

Experience supporting engines, axles, transmissions, gears, or other automotive components.

Experience with equipment installation, commissioning, machine runoff, and production launch activities.

Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing permanent corrective actions.

Knowledge of manufacturing safety, ergonomic, quality, and continuous-improvement standards.
