Senior Workday IT Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Workday IT Engineer to lead the design, development, and support of enterprise Workday solutions. This individual will be responsible for Workday security, integrations, reporting, application development, and technical architecture while partnering with HR, Finance, Payroll, and IT stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and efficient solutions.
This role is ideal for someone with deep technical expertise in the Workday platform who enjoys solving complex business challenges, driving automation, and mentoring technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Workday solutions across Security, Integrations, Extend, Reporting, and Business Processes.
- Lead Workday Security administration, including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Segregation of Duties (SoD), SOX compliance, security audits, and Identity & Access Management (IAM) integrations.
- Build and maintain integrations using Workday Studio, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), REST/SOAP APIs, and related technologies.
- Develop custom applications using Workday Extend to enhance business capabilities.
- Create advanced reports, dashboards, and analytics using Report Writer and BIRT.
- Design and optimize Workday business processes and workflow automation.
- Develop, test, deploy, and support software applications and integrations across enterprise systems.
- Analyze business requirements and recommend scalable technical solutions.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including solution designs, specifications, process documentation, and support materials.
- Produce system architecture, infrastructure, and integration diagrams as needed.
- Provide production support, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement continuous improvements.
- Partner closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership to the development team.
- Train end users on new functionality, reporting tools, and system enhancements.
- Prepare status updates and communicate project progress to technical and business leadership.
- Stay current on emerging Workday capabilities and industry best practices.
- Ensure development standards, documentation, and IT governance processes are consistently followed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of Workday technical experience.
- Deep expertise in:
- Workday Security
- Workday Studio
- Workday Extend
- Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB)
- Workday Reporting (Report Writer & BIRT)
- Strong experience developing integrations using:
- REST APIs
- SOAP APIs
- XML
- XSLT
- JSON
- Experience supporting enterprise Identity & Access Management (IAM) solutions such as SailPoint or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of SOX controls, security governance, and audit compliance.
- Experience designing and supporting enterprise integrations between Workday and third-party systems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work directly with technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience working in Agile or enterprise software development environments.
